Berlin - Hertha Berlin picked up their first win of the season, beating VfL Wolfsburg 1-0 at the Olympiastadion on Wednesday night.

Debut goal for Kalou

Having made two brief substitute appearances for the Old Lady, Salomon Kalou was finally given the nod by Jos Luhukay to start, leading the attack and looking like he had been part of the furniture for years already.

It was only after a scare at the other end, with Thomas Kraft denying Vieirinha, that he got the chance to put the hosts in front, and he took it. Ricardo Rodriguez was robbed of possession by Marcel Ndjeng and his cross from the right was bread and butter for the former Chelsea FC player, who headed in from close range.

It was a different story in the second half with Wolfsburg surging forward in search of an equaliser. Hertha were happy just defending, and watching as Nicklas Bendtner sent an effort high into the Berlin night sky. That was about as close as the guests got, too, with Hertha defending with everything they had to claim three points for the first time this season.
