Reus’ return to form recognised

Cologne - Following a weekend of audacious effort and no-look finishes, it was man of the moment Karim Bellarabi who topped the poll in the Matchday 2 Goal of the Week, as voted for by the bundesliga.com users (click on the video above to review the top five goals from Matchday 2 of the 2014/15 campaign).

Injuries hampered the Bayer 04 Leverkusen winger’s progress in recent seasons, but now 24 years old, Bellarabi has well and truly announced himself on the Bundesliga stage with his first-time volley in the 4-2 win over Hertha Berlin earning him 37 per cent of the votes.
Close behind in second having raked in a quarter of the overall votes submitted was Borussia Dortmund’s shining star Marco Reus, who was back to his very best in the 3-2 triumph in Augsburg, opening the scoring at the end of a typically slick BVB attack. The German international talked of his ‘pure joy’ at finding the back of the net for the first time since missing out on the Nationalmannschaft’s 2014 FIFA World Cup triumph due to an ankle injury.

With little between the five candidates in terms of votes, 1899 Hoffenheim’s Roberto Firmino pipped FC Bayern striker Robert Lewandowski into third place with the bundesliga.com users rating his classy, albeit cheeky finish in Bremen, above the Pole’s first competitive goal for the record titleholders. Bringing up the rear was Bremen summer signing Alejandro Galvez, who can at the very least take heart from the fact that his 59th-minute effort earned Werder an invaluable point.
