Munich - FC Bayern München midfielder will miss "a few weeks" of the new Bundesliga season, according to club chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.

Rummenigge: 'No need to panic'

"He has problems with his knee and was examined again on Monday," the 58-year-old said at a press conference on Tuesday. "He won't make the international fixtures [between Germany and Argentina in Düsseldorf on 3 September, and a EURO 2016 qualifier against Scotland four days later]. We'll be patient but are nevertheless confident that it won't be a long-term injury."

The news comes at an inopportune time for the club, who also have fellow midfielders and Thiago Alcantara in the treatment room. However, Rummenigge insists Bayern will not rush into finding a replacement: "We are not prone to becoming hectic or nervous. You could see in the that we're well equipped. We've got lots of quality in the squad and we're very relaxed. Whether or not we do anything [in the transfer market] depends on quality and price. We'll continue to monitor the situation calmly."

Meanwhile, Thiago is hoping to make his comeback from injury next month. The Spanish international midfielder suffered a knee injury in last season's 3-3 draw with TSG 1899 Hoffenheim at the Allianz Arena and was expected to be sidelined until October. However, the 23-year-old is confident of returning to the first-team fold sooner rather than later. "I want to be playing again in four to five weeks," he said.
