Schalke fans celebrate traditional season opener
Gelsenkirchen – FC Schalke 04 fans turned out in their droves on Friday morning to celebrate Schalke Day, the Royal Blues’ traditional season opener.

and Co. were in high spirits as they signed autographs, posed for photographs and chatted to supporters, who had travelled from far and wide to get a taste of their beloved club. “We had a great day,” said sporting director Horst Heldt. “The team have had a lot of fun with our fans. It’s a fantastic experience to see so many people flock here each year. It’s what sets Schalke apart.” Despite dominating for large parts of their game against the Hammers, Jens Keller’s men were beaten on penalties by the East London side after the match had finished 0-0 after 90 minutes.
