Munich – A 594-day wait comes to an end for on Friday evening (18 July) when FC Bayern München's German international defender makes his exceedingly long-awaited comeback from a cruciate ligament injury.

Hometown return

“Obviously I just can't wait,” Badstuber told the club website ahead of the friendly against a Red Baroons FC Bayern fan club select XI. “I need these kind of games to build up my strength, confidence and fitness.”

On the back of an ever more intense training schedule over the past few weeks, the 25-year-old central defensive specialist is now focused on regaining his match rhythm ahead of the start of the 2014/15 campaign. He can certainly be sure of plenty of local support from family and friends in his first game back, which happens to be in his home town of Memmingen - “ a nice bonus.”

Badstuber ruptured the cruciate ligament in his right knee in the home game against Borussia Dortmund at the start of December 2012, suffering a relapse the following May, and has been out of action for over 19 months all-told.
