Freiburg - SC Freiburg have continued to strengthen their side ahead of the 52nd Bundesliga campaign by completing the signing of Serbian international centre-back Stefan Mitrovic on Wednesday.

’Bundesliga a huge challenge’

The 24-year-old, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Spanish side Real Valladolid CF, joins the Baden-Württemberg based outfit from Portuguese champions Benfica SL.

“We’ve been following Stefan Mitrovic closely in the Primera Division,” said sporting director Klemens Hartenbach. “We’re happy to have added a tough defender and a good tackler to our squad who’s also good with both feet and capable of playing his way out of trouble. We believe he can make it in the Bundesliga.”

Mitrovic, who earned his first international cap in June during a friendly against Panama, is hoping a move to Germany can represent the next step in his career. “Playing in the Bundesliga will be a huge challenge. I’m convinced joining Freiburg is the right choice for me. I’ve been very impressed by the open conversations with the people in charge.”
