Frankfurt - Champion’s duel for the Bundesliga season opener: Bayern München pitted against VfL Wolfsburg.

The Bundesliga will be commencing its 52nd season with a match between two German champions: At 20:30 CEST on Friday, 22 August 2014, the reigning champion FC Bayern München will be welcoming the 2009 champion VfL Wolfsburg.

The Bundesliga's international fan base can look forward to an exciting season opening at which world stars such as Thomas Müller, Arjen Robben and Manuel Neuer (FC Bayern Munich) will be pitted against Kevin De Bruyne, Naldo and Ivica Olic (VfL Wolfsburg).

The other encounters scheduled for the first Bundesliga matchday for the 2014/2015 season also promise no shortage of excitement, with vice champion Borussia Dortmund playing against last season's number four Bayer 04 Leverkusen. The two rising stars in the Bundesliga will be starting the season with home matches: Whereas 1. FC Cologne is expecting Hamburger SV, SC Paderborn 07 will be playing against 1. FSV Mainz 05.

Bundesliga 2 will be entering its new season on 1 August and simultaneously celebrating its 40th anniversary. Two newcomers - 1. FC Heidenheim and RB Leipzig - have joined the ranks of professional football for the first time.
