Next stop Dortmund for Ji

After two separate half-season stints in the service of FC Augsburg, Dong-Won Ji is a fresh addition to Borussia Dortmund's already bristling forward armoury as of 2014/15.

Hit the ground running for Augsburg

Hailing from the city of Jeju, capital of the eponymous island province off the South Korean coast, Ji took his first professional steps on the mainland with Gwangyang's Chunnam Dragons FC.

Such was the rangy striker's impact in his debut K League Classic campaign that he was promptly snapped up by English Premier League side AFC Sunderland in the summer of 2011. Augsburg gave him his first taste of the Bundesliga in the second half of the 2012/13 season and Ji flourished in his new surroundings, scoring five goals in 17 outings to help the Bavarian Swabians rally to safety from a highly precarious mid-term position.

He started the following season back in Sunderland but during the winter break opted to return to Augsburg again, this time on a stand-alone half-season deal. At the same time, he agreed terms with Dortmund on a subsequent four-year contract. A versatile all-rounder in the forward department, Ji can operate in the hole behind the main striker as well as occupying the latter role himself. He has also demonstrated his credentials at international level, not least by way of his contributions to South Korea's third-place finishes at the AFC Asian Cup in 2011 and the London Olympics the following year.
