Leverkusen - After just one season at the BayArena, midfielder Emre Can has left Bayer 04 Leverkusen to join English Premier League side Liverpool FC.

'Developed very well’

The 20-year-old, who moved to die Werkself from FC Bayern München in 2013, has opted to make use of a release clause in his contract and will officially become a Liverpool player on 1 July.

“Emre Can developed very well and very quickly at Leverkusen over the last 12 months,” commented Bayer’s CEO Michael Schade. “We would like to have kept him here but the release clause was a part of his contract. Therefore we wish him every success for his development in the Premier League.”

Frankfurt-born Can, a Germany U-21 international, made 29 league appearances and scored three goals in the campaign just ended, helping the Rhineland club to a 4th-placed finish and a UEFA Champions League qualifying place.
