Paderborn - Newly promoted SC Paderborn 07 have wrapped up another pivotal piece of business by completing the permanent signing of Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Elias Kachunga, who has extended his stay at the club until 30 June 2016.

’Perfect harmony’

Kachunga joined Andre Breitenreiter’s side during the 2012/13 winter break and played a key role in helping Paderborn to their first-ever promotion into Germany’s top flight with six goals and nine assists in 2013/14.

The 22-year-old has made 46 appearances all told for SCP and, having shown glimpses of the potential that led to Gladbach signing him back in 2005, the Bundesliga minnows are hoping he can be a building block for the future. “It didn’t take long to reach an agreement,” said sporting director Michael Born. “Elias can take the next step in his career by playing with us in the Bundesliga.”

Coach Breitenreiter was equally pleased with the long-term acquisition of a talented forward, who he believes has demonstrated the exact qualities the newly-promoted side value in their players. “With his willingness to cover a lot of ground, his team-oriented work ethic and his threat in front of goal, Elias is an important player for us,” said the 40-year-old. “His style of football works in perfect harmony with our footballing philosophy.”
