Munich - When Huub Stevens took over the VfB Stuttgart reins from Thomas Schneider on 10 March, only goal difference was keeping the Swabians out of the relegation zone.

Two months later and with a game to spare, their Bundesliga status had been secured, despite losing 2-1 at home to VfL Wolfsburg on Matchday 33. His relegation-dodging remit fulfilled, or rather what Stevens labelled "the toughest test" of his career, the Dutchman stepped down as head coach on the final day of the season, with VfB ending the campaign five points clear of the drop zone in 15th.
