With Hummels in the team, Dortmund collected an average of 2.4 points per game, while only managing 1.4 without the former Bayern youngster in their side. Furthermore, die Schwarz-Gelben only conceded every 95 minutes when the centre-back was marshalling their back four, compared to every 62 when he wasn't on the pitch.

Hummels was forced to sit our several games before Christmas after picking up an injury in an international friendly against England in November. Since then, however, the centre-back has proved his worth on several occasions, not least in Dortmund's 3-0 win over Bundesliga champions FC Bayern München on Matchday 30.
