Schalke, meanwhile, must wait another week in order to secure their qualification for the UEFA Champions League, but the Royal Blues remain confident that they will meet their target.

bundesliga.com rounds up the post-match reaction from the Veltins Arena...

Patrick Herrmann: We’re incredibly happy to have won and I’m glad to have scored the winner, especially with my weaker left foot. We put in a great team effort today and it was a big step towards qualifying for Europe. There are two more games to be played, and hopefully those will go well for us.

Max Kruse: We scored the goal at a good time. We knew we'd have the odd chance on the counterattack in the second half to maybe get another goal. We've basically guaranteed qualification for Europe now and we can play with a bit more freedom in the last two games.

Leon Goretzka: Gladbach played very well and worked really hard in defence. With a bit of luck we might have scored an equaliser, but in the final third we never got it right. We’ve lost the last two games now but we know what we’re capable of. I’m positive that we can produce our best in the next two games and get that third spot.

Julian Draxler: We knew what a good chance this was and we were really up for the game. The fact we’ve lost has nothing to do with desire; we just lacked a bit of creativity up front. It will be tight for the last two games but the good thing is that we still have our fate in our own hands. I think we’re experienced enough to keep our heads.
