Leverkusen - Bayer 04 Leverkusen have confirmed that Stefan Kießling's season is over after the striker pulled his thigh muscle in Saturday's 2-2 draw with Borussia Dortmund.

A scan on Sunday morning revealed the extent of the damage caused to the muscle fibres in Kießling's left leg. As a result, the 30-year-old will miss Leverkusen's remaining games against Eintracht Frankfurt and SV Werder Bremen, while his availability for the FIFA World Cup will have to be assessed.

He picked up the injury in the 83rd minute of an exciting game against Dortmund on Saturday and was unable to continue. As a result the German forward will be unable to defend his top goalscorer title in Germany's top-flight, ending the season with 15 Bundesliga goals.
