Nuremberg - It was a day for defenders in Nuremberg with Emir Spahic and Sebastian Boenisch contributing to Bayer 04 Leverkusen's 4-1 win over 1. FC Nürnberg, for whom left-back Marvin Plattenhardt scored a consolation.

1. FC Nürnberg

Nürnberg's defensive display was, however, disastrous, as they conceded four times for the second week in a row and edge ever closer to relegation after their fourth straight defeat. bundesliga.com summarises the post-match reaction...

Raphael Schäfer: We gave away some silly goals and invited them into the game, and our belief suffered as a result. You saw that we didn't have the quality to turn it around against a team in their position. It's tough but we have to dust ourselves down and hope we can get something in Mainz.

Javier Pinola: We've been working really hard, but don't seem to be getting the rewards for the work we're putting in. The more experienced players now have to lead by example in our next few games.

Bayer 04 Leverkusen

Sebastian Boenisch: You can see how well prepared we are for our games. We've stuck together in the two games under Sascha Lewandowski and that's been really important. Our goal now is the Champions League after being second for so long in the first half of the season.

Bernd Leno: Staying fourth is going to be hard work, but we'll be giving our all in these last three games. We were very good on the break today and we took a chances.
