Frankfurt - Eintracht Frankfurt's has put pen to paper on a new three-year contract that will keep him at the club until the end of the 2016/17 season.

'Key player'

"It was a matter close to my heart," the 31-year-old said at the club's press conference ahead of the Eagles' trip to Hamburger SV on Saturday. "I had several offers, but [staying with] Eintracht Frankfurt was always going to be my preference."

The club's sporting director Bruno Hübner also expressed his delight at securing the services of the 1,96-metre attacking midfielder for a further three years. "He's one of our key players and a symbol of our club," said the 53-year-old.

Meier, who joined the Eagles from HSV in 2004, has scored six goals so far this campaign, including last week's last-minute winner against VfB Stuttgart.
