Gelsenkirchen - FC Schalke's players were delighted to have come through their test against fellow European hopefuls VfL Wolfsburg on Saturday, but the Wolves were left to rue the red card shown to Daniel Caligiuri in the second half of their 2-1 defeat in the Veltins Arena.

bundesliga.com rounds up the thoughts from both camps following the game...

I'm delighted with the win as it was massively important. It's always tough to play against ten men - they always run a lot more and it becomes a mental thing to try and beat them. Credit to the team, though, for switching on and changing the game when things didn't seem to be working for us.

We didn't play well once they went a man down. We lost the ball easily and made it difficult for ourselves. But it's great to win the match in the end. Kevin produced a great finish to win it, and it was also an excellent pass from Roman Neustädter.

After we conceded, we dropped down a level and even at 1-1 we weren't really concentrated enough. The main thing was that we got back into our rhythm, though. It was a workmanlike win, but one that we absolutely wanted.

We didn’t start well and they put us under pressure, but after that it was a very even game. After the red card we showed a lot of character to fight back, and so to lose the game makes it all the more disappointing.

It's a shame to lose that game as I think we played well. The red card in the second half changed the game completely. We did well to get back on level terms, but in the last fifteen minutes we got tired and the spaces opened up for them. Their winning goal was well-taken, you have to say.
