Doha - FC Bayern München have confirmed that left-back David Alaba should be fit in time for the Reds' Bundesliga restart on 24 January, despite injuring his right knee in training in Qatar on Sunday morning.

The 21-year-old, named Austrian Player of the Year for 2013 in October, limped off the pitch following a challenge from team-mate Pierre Höjbjerg in a practice match at the Bundesliga leaders' winter training camp in Doha, Qatar, leading to fears of a serious injury.

It was later confirmed, however, that Alaba should be able to feature against Sporting Club on Monday, with head coach Pep Guardiola saying, “He’s just taken a knock. It's not a big problem.” Bayern will heading back to Munich following the match in order to continue their preparation for the Bundesliga’s restart, which for them begins with a trip to third-placed Borussia Mönchengladbach.
