"Marc informed us that he would not be taking up the club's offer to renew his contract. We will have to start looking for another goalkeeper next season," said sporting director Max Eberl.

Ter Stegen has been an ever-present in the Borussia team since making his senior debut towards the end of the 2010/11 season, as his excellent displays helped the club avoid relegation into Bundesliga 2 via the play-off.

Since then, the Mönchengladbach-born stopper, who joined the Foals at the age of five, has gone on to make 91 Bundesliga appearances for Borussia, as well as win three caps for the full German national team.
