London/Dortmund - Borussia Dortmund star has been ruled out until January with an ankle ligament injury, while is set to be out for three weeks with a calf injury.

Defensive headache

The pair were replaced in Germany's at Wembley on Tuesday night, Schmelzer at half-time, and Hummels after 66 minutes.

Schmelzer complained of calf problems in the dressing-room at half-time, and was replaced by Hamburger SV's Marcell Jansen, while Hummels' substitution was forced by a badly-twisted foot, and came only 20 minutes after his arrival as a half-time replacement for Bayern's Jerome Boateng.

The duo's absence will be especially damaging for coach Jürgen Klopp, who already has to reckon with a long-term injury to centre-half Neven Subotic, while first-choice right back Lukasz Piszczek is still a few weeks away from full fitness.
