Munich - FC Bayern München midfielder should return from injury in time for the second half of the Bundesliga season, the club have confirmed.

Schweinsteiger underwent surgery on his injured ankle on Wednesday 13 November and doctors Ulrich Stöckle and Hans Zwipp, who carried out the operation, are confident the 29-year-old "should be fully fit for the winter training camp at the latest", which has been scheduled for the beginning of the month.

"The surgery went well," Bayern president Uli Hoeneß said at the club's Annual General Meeting on Wednesday. "It's looking better than we thought."

Schweinsteiger will miss Bayern's crunch game at Borussia Dortmund on Matchday 13, as well as Germany's friendly matches against Italy on Friday 15 November and England four days later.
