Munich - Xherdan Shaqiri has left the Swiss national team to return to Munich to undergo testing on his right thigh.

Potential therapy

The winger helped Switzerland to qualify for the 2014 FIFA World Cup after beating Albania 2-1 in Tirana, a match in which Shaqiri scored, but the 22-year-old will now miss the final qualifying game against Slovenia in Bern on Tuesday.

Instead of training, Shaqiri left Switzerland on Sunday morning to travel back to Munich to undergo testing to determine the seriousness of the damage. He will be examined by the club doctors and any potential therapy will also be carried out in Munich.

"In situations like this you have to leave the responsibility to the player and the club," said Switzerland's national coach Ottmar Hitzfeld, who was in the FC Bayern dugout between 1998-2004 and 2007-2008.
