Hanover - Hannover 96 forward is to undergo surgery after damaging ankle ligaments in his side's Matchday 8 encounter at home to Hertha Berlin on Friday.

An MRI scan on Saturday afternoon confirmed club doctors' fears and the Ivorian will now be on the sidelines for several weeks, although an exact timeframe for his return is not known at this point.

"Of course it's a big blow both to Didier and the team," said head coach Mirko Slomka. "There's no doubt that we'll miss him. We wish Didier a full recovery so that he can come back into the team after his rehabilitation."
