Kruse: "Hard work finally paid off"

Mainz - Robbie Kruse was a happy man indeed after finding the net twice on his Bayer 04 Leverkusen starting XI debut in the comfortabe 4-1 win at 1. FSV Mainz 05 on Matchday 6.

bundesliga.com rounds up both sides' post-match thoughts...

The opposition were very good, there's no doubt about that. We didn’t play as well as we can today, and unfortunately the match was already decided at half-time. After falling behind we weren’t organised enough. It was a very poor performance from us and we must improve [in the DFB Cup] against 1. FC Köln on Tuesday.

We can’t just forget about our performance in the first half, there's definitely need to discuss a few things. Too few players showed the passion and emotion it takes on the pitch today.

Things worked out perfectly for me today, I’m relieved that my hard work has paid off. Obviously you're disappointed when you’re not playing often, but I was always there to support my team-mates and it shouldn’t be forgotten that I have top-class players ahead of me.

I'm just really glad to have fully recovered, for me it was important I was back in the starting XI. In the end it was a successful day all round.
