Bremen - SV Werder Bremen have confirmed the departure of forward Marko Arnautovic to English side Stoke City FC.

Right solution

The 24-year-old forward, who arrived from FC Internazionale Milano in 2010, made his last appearance in green and white shirt in Saturday’s 4-1 defeat to Borussia Mönchengladbach. The game marked his 72nd Bundesliga appearance, during which he scored a total of 14 goals.

“This transfer was right for all involved,” said Bremen’s sporting director Thomas Eichin. “We wish Marko all the best for his future and we wish him every success with his new club.” Negotiations overnight with the English club paved the way for the transfer on Monday.

Arnautovic will have to wait a while before linking up with his new club, however. He is part of the Austria squad which will meet Germany in a FIFA World Cup qualifier in Munich on Friday night, after which he will leave to embark on his new career in England.
