Dortmund - A man with a flair for extravagant goal celebrations, has surpassed all expectations since joining Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2013.

So who exactly is this attacker who won the hearts of Dortmund fans immediately so quickly? bundesliga.com fills in the blanks...

A superhero

Aubameyang has previous experience when it comes to superhero celebrations. This homage to Spiderman was inspired by his friend and former St. Etienne team-mate Jeremie Janot. The keeper, who played with 'Aubame', as he is known in France, is a huge fan of comic book heroes and even appeared in a Spiderman mask against FC Istres in 2005. Aubameyang reprised the celebration after scoring for Dortmund in the 2014 Supercup against Bayern, confirming his status as a BVB fan favourite.

Mr Glamorous

Aubameyang isn’t your average player by any stretch of the imagination, particularly when it comes to footwear. In December 2012, he wore boots encrusted with over 4,000 Swarovski crystals while warming up for a match against Olympique Lyonnais. He has already appeared in neon-coloured sneakers in his time at BVB. According to kicker magazine, former Dortmund coach Jürgen Klopp asked him to wear "normal trainers" after he joined the Schwarz-Gelben.

Only football

Crystal shoes, Spiderman masks, Batman capes - at first glance, Aubameyang comes across as a bit of a diva. Upon closer inspection, however, it becomes clear that the attacker is, in fact, anything but. Janot told Sport Bild online that Aubameyang is “a quiet lad, who doesn’t visit night clubs, doesn’t drink alcohol and always dreams about football".

Family man

Away from football, 'Auba', as he has been dubbed by his Dortmund team-mates, is a family man, spending any down time with his girlfriend and son, to whom he dedicated his Spiderman celebration against Bayern in the 2014 Supercup. “He’s given me a real boost,” said the proud dad, whose boots bear his son's name "Curtys". He also dedicated his three debut goals at FC Augsburg to his parents. “That is for you,” he tweeted after the match. He has a tattoo on his arm dedicated to his mother "Crespo for life".

Lightning fast

His speed, described by Klopp following his debut in August 2013 as a “fierce quality”, is one of Aubameyang’s greatest strengths. During his time at AC Milan, 'Auba' ran 30 metres in just 3.7 seconds, faster than world and Olympic 100-metre champion and world-record holder Usain Bolt.

Life in the fast lane

Given the Gabon international's on-field speed, it is only natural that he should enjoy life in the fast lane off it too. “It's fun having cars like this,” he says of his white Ferrari 458, which also bears his initials. Aubameyang's squad number could even be found on the tyres of his green Aston Martin, although he now drives a Lamborghini.

Role models

While Aubameyang is a self-confessed fan of Thierry Henry, George Weah and Hernan Crespo, he names Ronaldo as his biggest role model in the game. “He was dynamic, strong in the air, technically-gifted, fast - a giant of a player,” he told kicker. BVB's No17 is also a big admirer of Michael Jackson and bases his fashion sense on the self-styled 'King of Pop'.

In the history books

Aubameyang's three goals in 79 minutes against Augsburg on the opening day of the 2013/14 campaign not only secured victory for his team, but also stamped his name in the record books. Only five other players in Bundesliga history had previously scored a debut hat-trick on their debut.

The joker

There appears to be something of a mischievous streak in the Gabon international too. “There was always a boot, a glove or a pair of trousers missing in the changing room,” explains Janot. “He messes around and plays practical jokes.” That behaviour is reminiscent of another French-speaking Bundesliga star: FC Bayern München trickster Franck Ribery.

Head over heels

Miroslav Klose used to do them, now Aubameyang does as well: somersaults. He decides spontaneously after each goal whether or not to take off, but tends to do so after particularly important strikes. He only did one somersault in Augsburg - following his first ever Bundesliga strike - but he repeated it later in 2013/14. This snap was taken after he netted in a 6-1 win over Hamburger SV.
