Leverkusen - Bayer 04 Leverkusen have completed their fourth signing of the summer transfer window in the form of Italian U-21 international Giulio Donati.

One to watch

The 23-year-old right-back, loaned out by Inter Milan to US Grosseto for the duration of last season, has put pen to paper on a contract keeping him at the club until June 30, 2017 and will wear the number 26 shirt for the Werkself.

“I’m delighted that everything came together for this transfer,” explained Donati. “Bayer 04 are a top club in Germany and also have a very good reputation in Italy. I’m looking forward to playing in the Bundesliga and, for me, personally being able to compete in the UEFA Champions League with Leverkusen is of course a very special challenge. I will be giving my all for Bayer 04 so that we may reach our targets.”

“In Giulio Donati we’ve signed a young, aspiring player, who fits perfectly with the profile of Bayer 04 Leverkusen,” commented Bayer 04 executive director Wolfgang Holzhauser. “He was an integral member of a successful Italian side at the recent UEFA U-21 European Championships in Israel. We’re convinced that Donati will slot in seamlessly at right-back.”

Sporting director Rudi Völler believes that in snapping up the U-21 European Championship runner-up, Leverkusen have “signed a player with unbelievable potential. Donati is a mainstay of the U-21 side, gained himself a lot of match experience in Serie B and didn’t just impress us because of his strong performances in Israel. Giulio will bring us a lot of delight in the future."
