Israel - Borussia Mönchengladbach striker will miss the rest of Germany’s campaign at the UEFA U-21 European Championships after suffering a muscle tear.

'Bitter blow'

The injury came to light after Mlapa was substituted in the to the Netherlands in Ha Moshava, Petah Tikva.

Head coach Rainer Adrion was understandably disappointed to lose the former 1899 Hoffenheim man for the duration of the tournament. “It’s a bitter blow for us. Peniel was our best goalscorer in qualification and played ever so well in the run-up to the tournament. I see huge potential in him and am convinced of his ability, so his withdrawal will hit us hard.”

The German Football Federation (DFB) have consulted with the medical team at Mönchengladbach and agreed that Mlapa will remain with the squad and undergo treatment in Tel-Aviv.
