Düsseldorf - Just over a week after being relegated from the Bundesliga, Fortuna Düsseldorf have parted company with head coach Norbert Meier. The club announced the news at a press conference on Monday (27 May).

Meier, 54, had been in charge at Düsseldorf since the start of 2008 and oversaw the renaissance of the one-time German football powerhouse, guiding the club first up to Bundesliga 2 and then, by way of a play-off victory over Hertha BSC, back into the top flight in 2012.

Fortuna made a strong start to their first Bundesliga campaign in 15 years but fell away badly down the final straight, winning none of their final twelve matches and dropping directly back down to the second tier.
