Munich - FC Bayern Munich defender Holger Badstuber has suffered a major setback in his recovery from a cruciate ligament tear with news of a repeat injury that will keep him out for several more months.

Surgery in the USA

Badstuber has been out of action since suffering the original injury against Borussia Dortmund on Matchday 15 in December, but had begun light training again in April.

The centre-back has however re-ruptured the same ligament and will undergo surgery at Dr. Richard Steadman's clinic in the USA. Sporting director Matthias Sammer assured the defender: "Of course we'll give him all the time he needs to get fit again. We're optimistic. I'm sure he'll be back stronger than ever."
