Dortmund - Borussia Dortmund have been boosted by the news that Mario Götze could yet be fit for the final of the UEFA Champions League final against FC Bayern Munich in London on 25 May.

'Great' news

Thirteen days after injuring his thigh in the semi-final second leg defeat to Real Madrid, Götze is due to begin running again in training from the beginning of next week.

The 20-year-old has been undergoing intense rehabilitation training as well as cycling exercises since the injury. “If it works out, that’s great for us”, commented head coach Jürgen Klopp. “Then we would have him back in team training in a week and he’d be available for the final.”

Götze played his part in the first leg against the Spanish giants, assisting one of the four goals scored by Robert Lewandowski, but lasted just 14 minutes of the return fixture. The Champions League final would be his last competitive appearance before he moves to Bundesliga champions FC Bayern Munich in the summer.
