Bremen - With such a fine tradition of European football over the past decade, it is surprising to see SV Werder Bremen struggling to even earn a place among the top six for the third season in a row.

Yet following the departures of several experienced first-team regulars (Naldo, Claudio PIzarro and Tim Wiese among others) last season, the harsh new reality is one of a raw young team who currently stand a greater chance of gracing Bundesliga 2 stadia next year, than they do arenas in Madrid or Manchester.

  • Bremen have ended a counter-attack with a shot more times (60) than any other side in the Bundesliga.

  • Only FC Bayern Munich's midfielders have fired off more shots (292) than their Bremen counterparts (259).

  • Werder have managed to turn the tables and win from being 1-0 down twice - nobody has done better.

  • Werder are one of only three sides never to have drawn a blank away from home this season, a club record spanning 16 away games, including the 2011/12 campaign.

  • Werder have not won in five games, a new record for the season (two draws and three defeats)

    • Bremen have conceded more goals (51) than any other side in the Bundesliga this term.

    • Even keeping the opposition at a distance has not helped Bremen, who have let in more goals from long-range shots (eleven) than any other side.

    • Werder have conceded more goals from substitutes than any other team (six).

The once enfant terrible has been given more and more responsibility this season following the departure of Pizarro, but apart from a hat-trick against 1899 Hoffenheim, following on from a vital strike against VfL Wolfsburg, the Austrian international has not delivered on his potential. His current drought is eight games long, and Bremen need him to find form fast.
