Augsburg – FC Augsburg have unveiled former German national team stalwart Stefan Reuter as their new sporting director. He succeeds Jürgen Rollmann, whose own tenure in the post lasted less than three months.

"Confident we can attain our targets"

Reuter, 46, has signed up on a contract through to June 2015, valid for all divisions. "We're delighted to have been able to bring an expert of the calibre of Stefan Reuter on board at FC Augsburg. He agreed to take on the job at short notice, because he recognises the club's potential," FCA president Walther Seinsch commented.

"I'm looking forward to this new challenge at FC Augsburg and I'm confident we can attain our set targets," said Reuter, who himself hails from Dinkelsbühl, some 150 km north of Augsburg, and has kept a close eye on the club's progress in recent years.

In a playing career that took in stints with 1. FC Nuremberg, Bayern Munich, Juventus and finally twelve years on the books at Borussia Dortmund, right-sided defensive specialist Stefan Reuter also turned out 69 times for Germany. Since hanging up his boots, he has held management roles at Dortmund and TSV 1860 Munich, where he was sporting director from January 2006 to February 2009.
