Bayern trio receive FIFPro nominations

Zurich - FC Bayern Munich midfielders Bastian Schweinsteiger and Franck Ribery and striker Mario Gomez have all made the shortlist for the 2012 FIFPro World XI.

Stars for club and country

They join team-mates Manuel Neuer and Philipp Lahm, who both earned a nod in the goalkeeper and defender categories respectively. Borussia Dortmund's Mats Hummels also joined Lahm in the latter. Another Germany international, Real Madrid playmaker Mesut Özil, has also been selected.

, and helped Bayern to two finals last season and second place in the Bundesliga, with Gomez just narrowly failing to top the individual scoring chart for what would have been the second year running. All three also featured at UEFA EURO 2012 in the summer, with Gomez and Schweinsteiger helping Germany reach the semi-finals and Ribery reaching the last eight with France.

The shortlist, comprising 55 players in total, will be whittled down to give the FIFPro World XI of the year, which will be unveiled at the FIFA World Player Gala in Zurich on January 7 2013.
