VfL Bochum 3-0 MSV Duisburg

VfL Bochum made it two wins from two to start the season after cruising to a 3-0 victory over Ruhr district rivals MSV Duisburg.

In confident mood after beating SC Paderborn 07 last weekend, the home side began the game brightly and dominated the first half, but had to wait until just before the hour-mark for the breakthrough as Timo Perthel found the net with a deflected effort.

Duisburg’s challenge was effectively ended just over ten minutes later when Onur Bulut doubled the lead. Simon Terodde, scorer of 16 goals last season, then added a final flourish late on to maintain VfL’s 100 per cent start to the campaign.

TSV 1860 Munich 0-1 SC Freiburg

Nils Petersen scored his fourth league goal of the season as SC Freiburg ground out a 1-0 win at TSV 1860 Munich on Saturday.

Freiburg might have led at the end of a tight first half, with Vincenzo Grifo lashing an effort against the bar for the visiting side. As it was, Christian Streich’s were made to wait until midway through the second half for the opening goal, which arrived from a costly mistake by Lions’ striker Stephan Hain.

The 26-year-old needlessly hauled down Mike Frantz in the box, leaving Petersen with the task of scoring from the spot, which he did with aplomb. The home side rallied and Marius Wolf tested Freiburg keeper Alexander Schwolow, but the away side held on for a second win of 2015/16.
