Fortuna Düsseldorf have appointed Marco Kurz as their new head coach.

The 46-year-old, whose last post was a three-month spell in charge of FC Ingolstadt 04 at the start of 2013/14, has signed a three-year deal valid until 30 June 2017.

'A massive club'

"I didn't think twice about it once the responsible parties got in touch," former TSV 1860 Munich, 1. FC Kaiserslautern and TSG 1899 Hoffenheim head coach Kurz said. "They're a massive club with great fans in a fantastic city. I'm looking forward to getting to work."

Kurz, who won promotion to the Bundesliga with Kaiserslautern in 2010, will take charge of first-team training for the first time in the new year. His first competitive outing at the Fortuna helm comes at home to mid-table 1. FC Heidenheim 1846 on 6 February 2016.

Hovering three points above Bundesliga 2's relegation play-off spot at the halfway stage of the season, Fortuna had been without a coach since parting ways with Frank Kramer on 23 November.
