Karlsruhe - Karlsruher SC have announced that Markus Kauczinski will step down as head coach at the end of the season.

The 45-year-old, who was appointed first-team coach on a full-time basis in spring 2012, informed the Karlsruhe board of his decision not to extend the terms of his existing deal on Monday.

'The right time'

"The board have always stood by me in recent years, even in bad times," Kauczinski told the club's official website. "The board showed that they wanted to continue our work together during constructive contract talks. However, after careful consideration, I've come to the decision that it's the right time for both parties to go their separate ways. So, from 1 June, 2016, I'll be on the lookout for a new challenge. Until then, I'll be putting all my focus and energy into the team and the club."

After losing a dramatic relegation/promotion play-off to Bundesliga stalwarts Hamburger SV last May, Karlsruhe occupy 14th place in the Bundesliga 2 standings after ten matches.
