FSV Frankfurt ended the season with a 2-1 win over TSV 1860 Munich, but still went down after MSV Duisburg's win over RB Leipzig condemned them to spend next season in the 3. Liga.

Needing to win to stand any chance of staying up, Frankfurt showed a mixture of ambition and nerves in a tense opening 45 minutes at the Frankfurter Volksbank-Stadion. The nerves took the upper hand early in the second half, though, when the visitors’ Valdet Rama beat Andre Weis inside his near post from a tight angle.

Slowly but surely, Frankfurt's ambitions kicked in and they levelled from the penalty spot with Edmond Kapllani keeping his wits about him to beat Vitus Eicher. A red card for Maximilian Wittek gave the hosts more hope heading into the final ten minutes of the season, and they snatched a winner with Kapllani again decisive from the penalty spot. Their efforts were nevertheless in vain with Duisburg's shock win over promoted Leipzig sending Frankfurt straight down to the third division.
