Fortuna Düsseldorf gave themselves breathing room in the relegation battle courtesy of a 1-0 home win over SpVgg Greuther Fürth on Matchday 13.
Aiming to show a response to the 5-1 defeat at 1. FC Nürnberg in the DFB Cup midweek, the hosts began on the front foot. Julian Koch was first to threaten, powering a long-range effort wide on the quarter-hour mark, before Kerem Demirbay twice should have done better from distance.
Düsseldorf remained on top after the break, with Didier Ya Konan spurning the game's best chance in the 61st minute. The Ivorian was on hand to make amends 11 minutes from time, however, cutely heading home Demirbay's corner to send the home fans into raptures. Frank Kramer's side saw out the closing stages untroubled to edge away from the relegation zone.
