1. FC Nürnberg and Karlsruher SC played out an entertaining goalless draw on Monday night.

The game exploded into life in the 14th minute when Guido Burgstaller's fierce 20-yard drive forced a fingertip save out of Karlsruhe goalkeeper Dirk Orlishausen. The visitors responded in kind through Hiroki Yamada, but the Japanese midfielder fired wide.

Nürnberg's Georg Margreitter and Karlsruhe's Enrico Valentini struck the woodwork in the second half as both sides turned the screw. Nürnberg custodian Thorsten Kirschbaum then pulled off a fine stop from Dimitrij Nazarov, but Orlishausen saved the best until last with a stunning reaction save to deny Nürnberg substitute Danny Blum from point-blank range.
