Gerrit Holtmann struck the woodwork for the visitors after four minutes, but Paderborn soon took charge of proceedings. Dominik Wydra fired against the post, before Moritz Stoppelkamp poked home the opening goal in the 18th minute.

Süleyman Koc wasted a glorious opening to make it two early in the second half, but Paderborn eventually got the second goal their dominance deserved when substitute Nick Proschwitz fired in from Kevin Stöger's pass nine minutes from time.
