Düsseldorf - Fortuna Düsseldorf moved up into second thanks to a hard-fought 1-0 victory at home to FC St. Pauli in Matchday 10's curtain closer.

Boosted by a run of six matches without defeat, Oliver Reck’s men started confidently, dominating rhythm although clear-cut chances proved difficult to come by at both ends. Enis Alushi should have broken the deadlock for St. Pauli when he had only goalkeeper Michael Rensing to beat, but Michael Liendl did better at the other end 32 minutes into the Esprit Arena encounter, the Austrian’s neat finish from inside the box helping Fortuna to a narrow half-time lead.

Charlison Benschop came close to doubling the hosts’ advantage twelve minutes from time, narrowly missing the target from sharp angle, shortly before St. Pauli substitute John Verhoek volleyed Ante Budimir’s cross just wide, as Düsseldorf held on to register their fifth win in the current campaign.
