Leipzig - RB Leipzig were held to a 1-1 draw at home to 1. FC Heidenheim as both clubs missed out on the chance to break into the top two on Matchday 9.

In a cagey opening to the game, Leipzig probed Heidenheim's defence, while the visitors were happy to play on the break. The hosts were caught cold 21 minutes into the encounter, however, as Heidenheim left-back Philip Heise exchanged a neat one-two with Marc Schnatterer before applying a cool finish low inside the far post.

To Leipzig head coach Alexander Zorniger's delight, though, his men were back on equal terms within ten minutes. Dominik Kaiser lined-up a free-kick around 24 metres out, just left of centre, and hammered an unstoppable effort straight into the top-right corner. The Saxonians remained in the driving seat as the game progressed, but their dominance came to no further avail as both sides had to settle for a point.
