Fürth - SpVgg Greuther Fürth passed up the opportunity to temporarily move level at the top of the Bundesliga 2 as ten-men VfR Aalen battled their way to a deserved point in the 1-1 draw at the Trolli Arena.

Despite their lowly position in the standings, Aalen enjoyed the far better of the opening exchanges and would have taken the lead inside five minutes were it not for Wolfgang Hesl producing an outstanding save to deny Leandro Grech from the penalty spot. However, the visitors duly rewarded themselves before the break when Andreas Ludwig bore down on goal before finishing with aplomb from 18 yards.

The game looked to have been turned on its head just past the hour-mark when Tom Weilandt’s 68th-minute equaliser was followed in quick succession by Dominick Drexler’s sending off, but despite being a man down, Aalen dug in to take a hard-earned share of the spoils.
