Karlsruhe - An entertaining encounter between Karlsruher SC and 1. FC Heidenheim 1846 ended 1-1 as neither side quite had enough to find a winner in the latter stages.

Looking for their second win of the season, newly-promoted Heidenheim started on the front foot, as Adriano Grimaldi scored a wonderful solo goal after just six minutes. His charge from inside his own half was unchecked by any Karlsruher defender, and he finished coolly to open the scoring. With their fans roaring them on, however, the hosts had much the better of the remainder of the half, with Gaetan Krebs and Ilian Macinski particularly prominent in the Heidenheim penalty area.

They found a deserved equaliser from the penalty spot moments into the second half, Reinhold Yabo squeezing the equaliser into the bottom corner from twelve yards. It was the hosts who looked more likely to make the breakthrough late on, but their visitors, although fading, held firm for a valuable point which sends them up to tenth. Karlsruher, meanwhile, remain in fourth place.
