Nuremberg - FSV Frankfurt ended their run of two straight defeats to record their first win of the season with a surprise 1-0 victory away to 1. FC Nürnberg on Saturday.

There was no indication the match would pan out that way at the start, as the hosts exerted their influence from the off and barely allowed their visitors out of their own half. Nürnberg's sustained pressure earned them a penalty after just nine minutes, but Javier Pinola saw his spot-kick saved by FSV goalkeeper Patric Klandt.

They would later rue that miss as former Nürnberg midfielder Hanno Balitsch thumped a powerful header home from a Frankfurt corner. It was a setback the hosts were unable to recover from, and they failed to produce any meaningful attacks after the break before slumping to a second successive league defeat.
