Sandhausen - 1. FC Kaiserslautern were denied their second win in as many games as a late equaliser at the Hardtwaldstadion saw SV Sandhausen pick up their first point of the campaign.

In a first half bereft of goalscoring chances, Kaiserslautern failed to make their dominance tell against the hosts, who had clearly set themselves up to frustrate the promotion hopefuls with a deep-lying and disciplined backline. It took until the 60th minute, when Rene Gartler’s deflected effort came back off the Red Devils’ crossbar, for the tie to spark into life.

With both sides opening up, Alexander Ring snuck in at the back post to head Kaiserslautern in front with just over ten minutes remaining. Yet to truly pose a threat in front of goal, Sandhausen threw caution to the win late on and, after Seyi Olajengbesi had a goal ruled out for offside, it was left to substitute Alexander Bieler to rescue the hosts a share of the spoils in the 87th minute.
