Düsseldorf - Fortuna Düsseldorf and Eintracht Braunschweig shared the spoils on the opening day of the 2014/15 Bundesliga 2 campaign, playing out an entertaining 2-2 draw at the ESPRIT Arena.

The hosts started the better of the two teams and took the lead in spectacular fashion when Michael Liendl curled into the top corner from 20 yards with ten minutes of the first half remaining. Ben Halloran almost doubled Fortuna's lead before the break, but Braunschweig keeper Rafal Gikiewicz managed to keep out the Australian international's header with a point-blank stop.

Braunschweig, who finished bottom of the Bundesliga last season, improved after the restart and deservedly levelled matters just before the half-hour mark, Ken Reichel sidefooting the ball home from deep inside the penalty area. Charlison Benschop drilled into the far bottom corner just six minutes later to put Düsseldorf back in front, but Havard Nielsen restored parity once again with six minutes remaining as both sides were forced to settle for a draw.
