Braunschweig - Eintracht Braunschweig’s top goalscorer Domi Kumbela has decided to leave the relegated club at the end of June.

The 30-year-old’s contract is due to expire in June 2016, but is only valid providing the Lions are playing in the Bundesliga.

‘A wonderful time’

“Despite some promising conversations, we were not able to reach an agreement with Domi Kumbela on a continued cooperation,” explained Braunschweig’s sporting director Marc Arnold. “We were very interested in extending his deal in a different capacity, but our expectations for the contract were too far apart.”

Kumbela, who scored 64 goals and provided 19 assists in 164 appearances during two separate stints with the Lower Saxony club, said: “I want say a special thank you to those in charge at Eintracht, the entire club as well as the fans for your unconditional support throughout the past couple of years,” adding: “It was a wonderful and successful time, which I will remember fondly. However, before the end of my career I’d like to once again seek out a new challenge.”
