Bochum - VfL Bochum 1848 ensured they ended a difficult season on a positive note by clinching a narrow 1-0 win over Karlsruher SC on the final day of the 2013/14 campaign.

With nothing on the line for either side coming into the encounter, there was little between the two in the early stages as they cancelled each other out in all departments for the most part. Dima Nazarov almost grabbed an opener for Karlsruhe with an effort from range, while at the other end an inspired save by Rene Vollath saw him tip Richard Sukuta-Pasu’s effort onto the post to ensure that the deadlock remained intact at the break.

A half-time substitution for either side did little to inspire a change in proceedings with both Bochum and KSC guilty of offering little in terms of an attacking threat. However, just past the hour-mark it was the hosts who finally produced a breakthrough when Adnan Zahirovic rose highest to head home Henrik Gulden’s corner, a goal which proved to be the decider come the final whistle.
